Lovely Lavender Body Powder

Lavender not only lends sweet fragrance to this body powder, but the herb also helps to reduce inflammation and even out skin tone. Be sure to use certified organic lavender flowers and essential oil in your cosmetic formulations. For this recipe, you'll need powdered lavender flowers. If powdered lavender flowers are not available, simply powder the whole flowers in a spice grinder.

Kaolin is a natural, pure white silicate mineral that includes iron, magnesium, calcium and zinc. Due to its exfoliating and absorption properties, it is widely used in making facial masks, bath bombs, lotions, soap and other cosmetics. It is also used to produce paper, paints and most notably porcelain china, which is why it is also known as China clay.

As the name suggests, arrowroot powder is made from the powdered rootstock of arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea). This edible starch is also white and used in the food industry as a thickening agent and alternative to cornstarch.

Ingredients

1 cup kaolin clay

2 cups arrowroot powder

1/2 cup powdered organic lavender flowers

10-12 drops organic lavender essential oil

Directions

Combine the kaolin clay, arrowroot powder and powdered lavender flowers in a bowl; toss with a spoon to mix. Using a fork, stir in the essential oil until well combined. If it clumps, press the mixture through a sieve before continuing. "Cure" the finished powder in a glass jar, covered, for 1-2 weeks to allow the fragrance to develop. Transfer the powder into tins and label. Note: Powder puffs can be found in various sizes from online retailers, such as Amazon.
