Psoriasis & Eczema Salve

This formula contains some of the best topical herbs for inflammation. Chickweed, for instance, is astringent and contains beneficial fatty acids to help counter hot, itchy rashes. Calendula, yarrow and Oregon grape root offer anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties. Together in a rich base of sweet almond oil, this salve is soothing and nourishing for all types of inflammatory skin conditions.

Ingredients 1 1/2 cups organic sweet almond oil 3 tablespoons organic dried calendula flowers 3 tablespoons organic dried chickweed 2 tablespoons organic dried yarrow 1 tablespoon wildcrafted dried Oregon grape root 3 tablespoons beeswax beads (pastilles) Directions

Combine the oil and herbs in the top of a double boiler. (Tip: Since there are several herbs in this formula, it will be easier to strain off the oil after infusing if the herbs are placed in a muslin bag and then added to the pan.) Gently heat over low heat, taking care not to let the oil reach the boiling point. Simmer, uncovered, on the lowest heat setting for at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours. Note that the temperature should not be allowed to reach higher than 150'F. Check the water level in the bottom pan to be sure it doesn't run dry while infusing. Strain off and compost the herbs (or remove the muslin bag). Measure the oil to be sure that you have 1 1/2 cups. If not, return the oil to the double boiler, add more oil to reach the correct measure and reheat. When the oil is very warm, add the beeswax and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat. Pour the salve into clean 8-ounce glass jars or metal tins. Let cool on a flat surface undisturbed in a location free of drafts, heat or direct light for 8 hours or overnight. Label and store in a cool, dark place.
