Holy Basil (Rama) Chai

Holy Basil, Rama (Ocimum tenuiflorum), also called Tulsi Rama, is one of three varieties of Asian basils used in tea blends. The herb’s flavor profile is unique and refreshing with floral highlights and a spicy, citrus-like finish.

A close relative to sweet basil, Tulsi Rama is also the most widely cultivated holy basil in North America. In Ayurveda, the traditional healing system of India, Tulsi is considered an adaptogen and an herb of longevity. The aerial parts of the plant -- leaves, stems and seeds – contain numerous antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compounds, such as eugenol, luteolin, β-sitosterol, rosmarinic acid, apigenin and carnosic acid.

This organic herbal chai blend yields a gorgeous amber, caffeine-free beverage of distinction. In addition to a base of holy basil Rama, earthy undertones are provided by cardamom pods, ginger root, cinnamon bark, cloves, fennel seed, cloves, long peppers and vanilla beans.
