Lavender & Oatmeal Soap

The easy way to make homemade lavender soap.

Lavender contains antiseptic and anti-inflammatory compounds called ketones and aldehydes that are soothing and healing to skin. These same phytochemicals also lend lavender its lovely fragrance, which produces a mild sedative effect on the nervous system. It's no wonder that lavender is one of the most loved scents for soapmaking! This simple recipe will let you indulge in the luxury of lavender soap without a long wait to "cure" the soap or the need to handle lye. Two glycerin soap bars (3.5 oz.), grated 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil 1 tablespoon coconut oil 2 tablespoons ground oatmeal 2 tablespoons dried lavender flowers 12 drops lavender essential oil Combine soap, sweet almond oil and coconut in the top of a double boiler and gently heat on low until softened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in the oatmeal, lavender and essential oil. Transfer into lightly oiled molds and allow to cool for several hours or overnight. Makes 2 oval or square bars. Note: You could also make several charming soap balls (with oiled hands) and let them cool on waxed paper.
