Gardener's Healing Hand Salve

Photo and recipe by Mountain Rose Herbs

Formulated with arnica flowers, chamomile, lavender, rosehip seed oil and ginger root, this simple salve will to help ease bruising and soreness and speed the healing of minor cuts and other skin irritations. This skin-healing goodness isn’t limited to rough and dry hands either – try some on elbows and knees too!

First, make two infused oils. Fill a clean, half-pint jar with ½ cup each organic arnica flowers and chamomile flowers and cover completely with organic olive oil.  Fill another half-pint jar with ½ cup organic ginger root and cover with organic olive oil. Secure the lids on the jars and place both in a sunny spot to infuse for 3-4 weeks. Strain each oil using a mesh strainer or several layers of cheesecloth, reserving the oils and composting the herbal materials. Now proceed to make the salve…

Ingredients

½ cup organic Arnica-Chamomile infused oil

½ cup organic Ginger root infused oil

1 ounce Beeswax pastilles

1 tablespoon Rosehip Seed oil

1 tablespoon Vitamin E oil

20 drops each certified organic Lavender and Ginger essential oils

Two 4-ounce tins, jars, or other containers

Directions

Combine the infused oils and beeswax pastilles in the top of a double boiler and heat over low until the beeswax has completely melted, stirring to blend. Remove from heat and add Rosehip Seed oil, Vitamin E oil and essential oils and stir once more. Immediately pour into tins (a measuring cup with a spout does the job nicely). Let the tins rest for several hours or overnight before capping. Label each tin and store in a cool, dark place.
